Cocoon

Cocoon 1_edited.jpg

The cyclical nature of life and death is represented in the artwork, with the silkworm cocoon being used as a symbol of rebirth. Death is denied by the silkworm, which transforms into a new life form, continuing the cycle of life and death.

The tension and warmth between cocoons and candles are explored in the piece, with the oily substance produced by a candle being viewed as a kind of secretion, adding to the complexity of the work.

The cyclical process of a washing machine is used as a foundation for the artwork, symbolising a helpless fate that can be broken through unexpected events. When the washing machine is opened while washing a piece of fabric used in a previous work, the shackles seem to be broken, and the water and cloth flow out of it in combination with the form of silkworms and white candles.

Overall, the artwork is a representation of the cyclical nature of life and death, exploring the tension and warmth between different elements. The washing machine's cyclical process adds an extra layer of complexity, symbolising that fate can have surprises.
