The lust vented by times

The traditional framed bed from ancient China has been reimagined into something beyond comprehension in my artwork.

This transformation is representative of the shift from conservative to open-minded thinking.

The use of the framed bed from ancient times prompts contemplation on the loss that comes with change and whether it should be regarded as tragic.

Suona (on the left hanging), a traditional Chinese double-reed woodwind instrument, has a rich history and cultural significance. Its unique sound has been used to symbolise important transitions and milestones in Chinese society. By incorporating this instrument into the work, I honour this tradition and strive to bring positive change to the society.

The duality of the bed also suggests that individuals have the capacity to challenge and subvert societal norms, even within a highly restrictive cultural context. This makes the bed a powerful symbol of agency and resistance, as well as a fascinating artifact of Chinese history and culture.
